Ladies We Love: The HBIC of Hellz Bellz

There was a time in fashion when women were forced to be dainty and constrained. It wasn’t until the “bra burning 60s” that women, and the American fashion industry, experienced the liberation of the common standards of beauty. This movement directly inspired many of the fashion designers we know and admire today.

Hellz is one such design company– dedicated to attaining and celebrating the beauty in all of us, but specifically when we’re simply in a t-shirt or hoodie. As “a contemporary clothing brand catering to the burgeoning class of rebellious youth,” Hellz has become a global community curated by Lanie B., a.k.a Misslawn, or more commonly, the HBIC of Hellz.

As founder and creative director, Lanie has built a team that includes a troop of sassy femmes who bring us the best in style, art, and fashion on a regular basis with great pride and emphasis put on the creative and edgy. And don’t worry fellas, this isn’t a Chicks Only Club… there’s plenty of duds for the guys to choose from as well.

So grab our personal favorite, the “You Can’t Afford To _____ Me” tank, before they’re all sold out… again!

Hot Topiq: Glamorous Gwen Stefani As The New Face Of L’Oréal

Speaking of truly colorful females, our favorite kind of Gwen Stefani (the glammed up, non-Harajuku kind) strikes a pose for her newest endeavor. From People Mag:

Gwen Stefani is adding one more accomplishment to her growing list with the announcement to PEOPLE that she’s inked a deal as the next face of L’Oréal Paris. “I can’t believe I get to be one of the L’Oréal Paris girls,” says the star, “I love playing dress up, on stage or shooting videos, it’s always been one of my favorite parts of being in a band.”

Of joining the brand’s stable of A-listers like Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria and Beyoncé Knowles, Stefani says, “To get to work with such a modern, talented group of people is really exciting. I’m a lucky, lucky girl.” Aptly enough for a star who’s made red lips her signature, Gwen’s first campaign will be for the brand’s Infallible Le Rouge lip color. And while she’s offered us a first look at an image from the set of her shoot, you’ll be able to catch her full commercial in just a few days, when it debuts during this Sunday’s Golden Globes.

Do you think Gwen Stefani is a good fit for L’Oréal? Or should they have gone with someone different? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Cover Watch: Nicki Minaj Plays Dead For V Magazine

There’s no doubt that Nicki Minajis at the top– with a platinum plaque for Pink Friday, collaborations with some of the top artists in the game and more alter-egos than we can keep track of, hip-hop’s leading lady forces us to pay attention.

Although she has been dubbed by some as the Lady Gaga of the rap world, Minaj brings a whole new level of raw enthusiasm to the scene. This enthusiasm comes to life in February’s issue of V Magazine, with a cover story properly titled “The Rise and Rise of Nicki Minaj.”

Shot by fashion photogs Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Minaj donned a day of the dead inspired look– with colorful garb provided by Versace and London-based designer Mark Fast, not to mention the skeleton face paint.

With attitude for days, cheeky lyrics and head-turning style, we’re going to go ahead and assume that the hip-pop darling has way more in store for us in 2011.

Check out more photos of Nicki from inside the pages of the 69th issue of V Magazine, available at newsstands this week, after the jump…

Maybe it’s time you blocked your ex with the genius Ex-Blocker!

Via HowAboutWe:

Tired of spending long, sleepless nights google searching your ex, or WORSE, google IMAGE searching your ex’s new partner? This genius plug-in can help.

Do any of these traits symptoms sound familiar?

1. You have figured out a way to go to his/her website without your location/ISP being registered on their statcounter.

2. You carefully analyze his Twitter Feed. If he responded to someone’s tweet, you search through that person’s feed to find what he’s responding to.

3. You have a google alert on her.

4. Did your ex’s new girlfriend sign up for a GoodReads, Youtube, or Livejournal back in, like, 2005? You are well-aware of it.

5. You compulsively check and see who’s “liked” or commented on any of his or her blog or facebook posts. And then you stalk them, too.

If you do ANY of those things, you should probably look into an Ex-Blocker.

Basically, all you do is pick your browser, fill out your ex’s name, blog, twitter handle, and blog url, and, BAM, your ex is blocked. Think of all the time you’ll save not stalking him/her! You’ll be able to get 8 hours of sleep at night! You can start going to the gym again! Maybe even go on some dates with new people!

HPNOTIQ Hotspot: The Roosevelt’s Spare Room in Hollywood

Mixing an esteemed old-timey feel with modern amenities, Hollywood’s newest watering hole addition kicks off the new year with a bang. Located on the mezzanine level of the Roosevelt Hotel, The Spare Room is a vintage gaming parlor with a knack for superb cocktails, not to mention interior design.

The large room is filled with brass and studded leather booths, yet manages to keep a certain understated elegance throughout. Custom bowling lanes and all, The Spare Room makes for the perfect double date destination– and at an hour of bowling costing $100 for up to six people, we suggest inviting along your crew. But as you’re handed a pair of fashionable $700 Esquivel Shoes, we promise the cost will feel well worth it.

And with the men behind Los Angeles’ First & Hope Supper Club and 1886 bringing us this luxurious side of gaming, we suggest trading in that day-glo bowling alley carpeting and cheap beers for a night that will make you feel truly glamorous. Because who said you can’t wear a cocktail dress to play Connect Four (carved of walnut wood) and snap a few rounds in the photo booth?

Trend Spotting: Is The Fur Vest Over?

It’s no doubt that fur vests were the hottest trend of 2010, but can they stand the test of time?

Celebs seem to still be rocking the fuzzy accessories, and no doubt that this look can also be found in the streets of non-Hollywood climates over blazers and warmer coats.

But just how long do we see fur vests staying on trend? Forever? Or just until next season?
