Yesterday at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Essence Magazine held their 4th Annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon celebrating African-American women who, through their work in Hollywood, have inspired positive images of Black women around the world.
Amongst the women honored at the awards were Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Viola Davis and the youngest honoree, Jennifer Hudson.
Jennifer Hudson is the epitome of a role model– the 29-year-old American Idol alum has overcome family tragedy, astonished us with an Oscar-winning performance in Dreamgirls and now, with her phenomenal transformation as Weight Watchers spokesgirl, the star has also made waves in the realm of healthy body image.
“It is our job as women in Hollywood to create memorable characters and to tell meaningful stories. Thanks to our predecessors, we don’t have to fight to break down impossible barriers, we just have to strive to produce quality work. This is our time,” proclaimed Hudson.
Jennifer’s largely anticipated new album, I Remember Me, will be released on March 22nd. Check out the video for the beautiful first single, ”Where You At,” which was filmed in Hudson’s hometown of Chicago, after the jump.

OK, fine… we realize it’s not time to bust out summer dresses and bikinis just yet, but spring and summer always tend to catch up to us faster than we think. I, for one, have been enjoying plenty a granola bar for lunch these past few weeks in the dreaded anticipation of unpacking warmer weather clothes from the back of my closet.
And although most of us save prints and bright colors for sunnier days, New York Fashion Week showed us plenty of loud orange, aqua blue and vibrant purples on the runway for next fall. Luckily for those of us that have been stuck winter wonderlands, the weather allows us to be ahead of the curve and show off these trends a year earlier!
To get all the hottest cooler weather looks from the bright runways of Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana (seen above from left to right) check out SheFinds.com for where to find a collection of on-trend orange, pick up a bright sweater option from UrbanOutfitters.com that won’t break the bank, or snag a pair of eye-catching purple Jeffrey Campbells on SoleStruck.com and get yourself noticed!
For years, the music industry has been taking a turn to meld many genres into one– fusing dance tracks with pop hooks, rock guitar melodies and soft R&B vocals that nobody’s like button can escape.
And at the helm of this transition are many a newcomer-gone-sensation like Ke$ha and Uffie, but with danceable music topping the charts comes a lyrical dilemma… what’s more important– the message or the beat?
Luckily, there’s Wynter Gordon. You may know her from last year’s huge club hit “Dirty Talk,” as well as “Toyfriend” from David Guetta’s One Love, but Wynter has more songwriting chops than your usual I-just-wanna-dance-and-makeout electro pop princess.
Starting her career writing songs for stars such as Mary J. Blige, Danity Kane and laying down tracks for Flo Rida, it was only a matter of time until Wynter Gordon put together an album of her own. And come March, we’re excited to see the release of With the Music I Die, Gordon’s first studio album.
But don’t expect a dozen tracks driven strictly by dance beats, as Wynter has promised a vocally focused release with what we can only assume will be a healthy dose of girl power and sex appeal. And with credits on Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming album, Love?, in addition to penning new work for Estelle and Leighton Meester’s foray into the realm of music, I can guarantee that we’ll be seeing the name Wynter Gordon for a long time to come!
Check out the video for her first single, “Dirty Talk,” off of With the Music I Die after the jump…

For almost three decades, Madonna has been the inspiration for several generations of music, style and girl power attitude. Many of us have tried to emulate the multitude of iconic looks the pop star has given us through the years, and now we’re one step closer to achieving the perfect Madonna-inspired wardrobe.
Last summer we saw the launch of Material Girl for Macy’s– an affordable clothing line collaboration from the Queen of Pop and her daughter, Lourdes, who is not only the muse but also the mind behind the brand.
To keep up with the rocker girl inspired garb, Material Girl enlisted Taylor Momsen as the face of the collection in its initial launch but Lourdes took to the internet in late 2010 announcing that the mother-daughter design pair were looking for a new spokesgirl.
Finally, the wait is over and the new advertisements are here, revealing a stunning Kelly Osbourne in Momsen’s place.
We’ve been huge fans of Kelly’s continuing transformation from the hot mess of ‘yore to effortlessly chic and couldn’t think of a better fit for the starlet to show of her edgier side with the 80s inspired looks.
Madonna commented on hiring Miss Osbourne to represent the line by saying, “Kelly represents a true Material Girl. She is edgy, cool and has a unique sense of style that Lola and I love.” Now, that’s one heck of a seal of approval!
Shop the line over at Macys.com and be sure to check out the rest of Kelly Osbourne’s Spring 2011 looks as the new Material Girl after the jump and let us know if you plan on rocking these pop-infused frocks!
Over the past five years, Target has been delivering designer collaborations with some of the fashion industry’s biggest names — Zac Posen, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler and Thakoon, to name a few – at a literal fraction of the cost of their runway counterparts.
But sometimes, with discount prices comes great disappointment… many of us missed our opportunity to snag these fashionable finds because of the speed at which they flew off the shelves. With lines formed outside stores, insider pre-sales and online buyouts, some of the most coveted pieces disappeared before our eyes.
Luckily, the nice folks at Target have decided to re-release 34 pieces from past designer collaborations– all under the $50 mark! You’ll get your second chance to fill your closet with these trendy frocks in stores and on Target.com from March 13th to April 10th or, as we’ve learned the hard way, until the racks are empty.
For photos of the complete re-issued collection, as well as prices for each garment, head over to Racked.com
What we love about the pages of Interview Magazine is their unique take on current pop culture. They take an extra step into the realm of celebrity, whereas most other magazine’s just profile the stars and give us some pretty pictures to look at.
In next month’s issue of Interview, we can find Red Riding Hood star Amanda Seyfried on the cover– looking a bit like a Medieval princess. And although the photoshoot accompanying the feature article is stunning, we’re more interested in the interview, and more specifically, the interviewer.
For the March issue, Seyfried (who recently split from short time boyfriend, Ryan Phillipe) sat down with Justin Timberlake to talk about her fear of fairy tales, how she’s no Kristen Stewart , the fact that she was naked at the time of the call, and her inevitable 1996 crush on Leonardo DiCaprio’s Romeo.
Check out the two stars’ conversation in it’s entirety over at Interview or grab a copy of the magazine on newsstands now!
Sunday night saw many a celebrity siting as Rihanna celebrated her 23rd birthday in Los Angeles. The “Only Girl” songstress kicked off the night by performing at the halftime show for the 60th Annual NBA All Star game.
As if performing for thousands of fans isn’t birthday gift enough, not many of us can say our fans include the multitude of stars found in the stands that night– including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder and that’s not all!
Rihanna, who could be seen canoodling with pop’s pretty boy Justin Beiber before her performance, took the sage in a tuxedo jacket (one of fall’s hottest new trends) to begin the show-stopping performance in which she turned the stadium into a orchestral thunderstorm with her hit single, “Umbrella.”
Rihanna soon ditched the tuxedo for a sexy sequined halter and was joined on stage by Drake to dole out hits from her newest record, Loud, as well as an appearance by a red and gold chain-clad Kanye West for the grand finale with a performance of “All of the Lights.”
After the game, the birthday girl headed to a private home in Beverly Hills to celebrate with close friends and, of course, some of the music industry’s biggest names like Diddy, Cee Lo Green, and Mary J. Blige. Guests were treated to red velvet cupcakes topped with frosted Barbados flags and an old school performance by Snoop Dogg and Warren G.
Bet you’ve never had a birthday party that big! Not bad for 23, huh? Check out the video of Rihanna’s NBA All Star performance after the jump and let us know what you think!
