HPNOTIQ Chats Up Dancer Lacey Schwimmer on New Music Career

Lacey Schwimmer may have fox-trotted her way into our hearts as Dancing With The Stars’ spunky young danseuse — paired with the likes of Steve-O and Lance Bass on America’s favorite dancing show — but her chance for the top sadly came to a close earlier this week.

With radio personality “Psycho” Mike Catherwood at her side for the 12th season of DWTS, we hoped the couple’s onscreen chemistry would translate into the steps.  Unfortunately, with Mike’s self-proclaimed lack of grace the duo instead became the first couple to be booted off the show this season. Not to worry though, Schwimmer has a backup plan.

We had a chance to chat with Lacey on the blue carpet of Perez Hilton’s Blue Ball birthday celebration this past weekend where she confessed her undying love for her “favorite of all favorites,” HPNOTIQ, as well as the dancer’s plans to dive into a new career in music.

Are you excited to hear Lacey Schwimmer’s new single? Do you think the dancer will return to Dancing With The Stars next season or should she devote herself fully to pop stardom?

Ladies We Love: DJ Kalkutta Works Hard To Get It All

DJ Kalkutta makes having it all look easy — the young New York based turntablist, who’s moniker represents the Indian city in which she was born, has dominated the downtown NYC nightlife scene in one fell swoop.

This hip-hop and electro enthusiast has already added the runway shows of her favorite designer, Betsey Johnson, and some of the city’s hottest clubs like Marquee, the Ace Hotel and the trendy Blind Barber to her roster in addition to a stint in modeling, of course.

But don’t be fooled, this Indian beauty is more than a beat-making pretty face — DJ Kalkutta’s mission is way deeper than your average music maker and shaker. Her name is more than just that of her motherland, it is also the place where the DJ was placed up for adoption.

Raised here in the States, Kalkutta studied music and production and like most DJs just kind of fell into the game. Luckily for her, she can hold down the 1s and 2s… and when you find something you love and you’re good at, all you can do is hold on for dear life.

With good looks and cross-cultural understanding, Kalkutta has risen up as an ambassador for all things music, style and nightlife — and we can only be sure that global domination is in the works.

Be sure to check out our girl spinning at pretty much every hotspot in NYC by keeping tabs on her calendar and Twitter. I mean, that’s where we just found  Ke$ha show we’ll be sneaking into…

HPNOTIQ Hotspot: 8eighty8 Brings South Beach to The OC

Orange County may not be the first place you think of when you’re looking for a night out at the club with your girls, but since September of last year 8eighty8 changed all that.

Adjacent to Ten Asian Bistro in Newport Beach, the owners of the restaurant expanded next door — opening an 8,500 square foot stark white nightclub in the space that used to be Red.

Lined with creamy white leather booths and the classic neon lights of any great nightclub, 8eighty8 boasts a good looking and friendly staff that accomodates in the VIP or on the outdoor patio area — and did we mention the light up LED dance floor and go-go dancers?

With DJ performances by Pauly D and Shwayze, 8eighty8 has made a serious name for themselves in the Orange County party circuit, fulfilling their promise to book A-list DJs and bring a taste of Hollywood-meets-South Beach to a neighborhood otherwise sparse of clubland.

So next time you don’t feel like taking the hour drive to Los Angeles, stop into 8eighty8 and let the bartender know we sent you — we promise that a Roq Candy martini is all the convincing you need! Check out the flyer for this Friday’s hot party after the jump…

By now you all that this HPNOTIQista loves a good deal, but when it comes to my skin I don’t want to take the risk of skimping.

Luckily for all of us, our friends over at Refinery29 have put together a list of fantastic skincare products — all under $10!

First on the list is one of our must-have skincare routine additions — Vichy Thermal Spa Water — which literally saves skin when faced with changing weather conditions… as well as long flights. Trust me when I say that the guests at Perez Hilton’s Blue Ball were lucky I packed one of these in my carryon to LA this past weekend.

The HPNOTIQ Girl’s Guide To Twitter: Kelly Oxford

If you’re not following Kelly Oxford on Twitter, you’ve missed out on more than a couple of laughs.

The Canadian stay-at-home mother of three has been blogging since the Internet began to enter the common household, but recently hit her stride with what many call one of the most follow-worthy Twitter handles out there.

Don’t take my word for it, just ask Jimmy Kimmel, Howard Stern or Jessica Alba — who has signed on as an executive producer for Oxford’s upcoming sitcom which is currently in development with CBS.

If you think Twitter is just a way to let a bunch of strangers know what you’re eating for breakfast, you should consider that Alba reached out to Kelly via the social networking site in hopes of possibly collaborating in the future. Luckily Oxford happened to have already penned a pilot with mentor Jhoni Marchinko of Will & Grace scribe fame. The half-hour show, tentatively named The Mother Of All Something, will follow the story of a young snarky mom and is sure to include Oxford’s uncanny observational wit.

In addition to being another member of the Twitterati heading to Hollywood, Oxford has signed a book deal with HarperCollins to write a memoir, which we’re sure her 115,000+ followers will be excited to get their hands on. But celebrity beware, nobody’s safe from this sharp-tongued mom — especially if your name is Kim Kardashian.

A Look Into The World Of Oh Land

Last night at New York City’s Charles Bank Gallery, Oh Land — one of our bonafide Ladies We Love – performed an intimate set of songs to kick off her four night residency at the downtown gallery.

Accompanied by the the work of visual artist and boyfriend, Eske Kath, each night of the Welcome to Oh Land show is set to feature songs from her debut self-titled album which Oh Land herself describes as an album of “all of my secrets, wishes, dreams and fears,”

“I tell stories from my life wrapped in fairytales and fables all happening in the dreamy landscapes of a world I call Oh Land. I hope people will find an escape in the music and let their thoughts and dreams run wild, just for a moment,” she explains.

And last night was certainly full of whimsy as a string quartet accompanied the Danish beauty while the singer’s own ballet routines projected across a wall of large white balloons, Kath’s neon houses floated overhead and the album’s signature wreath of illuminated homes adorned the entrance.

The exhibition will be on view everyday until Friday from 12-7pm followed by a different interpretation of Oh Land’s set nightly at 8pm. Space is limited, so be sure to get there early! Take a look at Oh Land performing “Lean” with a string quartet after the jump…

HPNOTIQ Chats With Aubrey O’Day On The Blue Carpet

From fame to forgotten, Aubrey O’Day has been through the Hollywood ringer. The one time Danity Kane singer has seen her share of controversy — including being fired by Diddy on national television — and nothing showcases Aubrey’s struggle to get back to the top of the music industry than her new show on Oxygen, All About Aubrey.

We have to admit that we were skeptical at first (even though we’re suckers for a good reality TV show), but ultimately Chelsea Handler said it best when she said that Aubrey isn’t nearly as dumb as one would assume.

The singer is more than motivated and AAA‘s honest portrayal of Aubrey’s struggle with fame, weight and the overall pressures of being a star, have truly touched us. Not to mention the absolute hilarity that is sure to occur in every episode.

We caught up with Aubrey on the blue carpet of Perez Hilton’s Blue Ball birthday celebration to chat about All About Aubrey, her celebrity crush and how she Lives Louder on a day-to-day basis:

Be sure to check out All About Aubrey on Oxygen every Monday at 10pm EST.

Who Did Blue Best at Perez Hilton’s Blue Ball?

On Saturday night, a sea of blue took over Siren Studios in Hollywood for Perez Hilton’s 33rd birthday celebration. And since guests were warned they’d be turned away from the Blue Ball if the night’s official color wasn’t worn, many an outfit blended in with the red blue carpet, blue lights and delicious blue cocktails (provided by yours truly). Luckily, a few guests reminded us of their star power and capability to break necks!

Dita Von Teese went for her usual over the top glamour in a deep gem blue Jenny Packman dress covered in sequins from head to toe, with large paillettes lining the hem. This is capped-sleeves done right — accented along the shoulder with a satin sheen, directing our attention straight to Dita’s classic red pout and raven hair.

The burlesque maven opted for pink tones in her two performances, but whether we’re talking about her dresses or skin tone, we’ll leave up to your imagination — or you can keep an eye on our YouTube as we release video of the diva’s routines.

Comedienne La Coacha made sure she was noticed in candy pop colors — a turquoise dress reminiscent of Rihanna’s red carpet Grammy look, with green and pink bows accenting her waist on hair. She also happened to don the best accessory of the night — a pair of blue balloons floating above her head kept us in the know of her location of all times.

TV personality, makeup artist and fashion expert Jeannie Mai produced one of our favorite photobooth photos of the night by opting out of the blue dress fad of the night, and rather sticking to a classic black cocktail dress from Faith Connexion. Sounds like she didn’t make it past the velvet rope, right? Wrong! The How Do I Look host came with a full-on blue spray tan from the waist up, smoldering blue eyes, lips and nails in our favorite color — breezing her way down the blue carpet.

Cover Watch: Zooey Deschanel Gets Lucky For Spring

When I think “girly,” Zooey Deschanel is usually the first celebrity that comes to mind. Granted, there’s many a starlet that is feminine, demure or even dainty, but Deschanel encompasses a certain quirkiness with her womanhood that exudes a sort of childhood charm.

Yet, through her essence of niavte and those infamous doe eyes, Zooey has managed to retain a reputation of sharp wit and, above all, a sexiness that leaves many a man speechless.

Her spunk clearly shines through on the April cover of Lucky Magazine with the whimsy from her “Odette Dot” dress by Marc by Marc Jacobs and the pairing of an off-kilter accessory like Kara Ackerman’s “Evil Eye” Necklace.

When asked about how she dressed as a child, Zooey tells Lucky, “I wanted to be really girly… like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I’m still the same way.”

This indie darling describes her current style as “girly, flirtatious, colorful.” She pauses during the interview, Lucky tells us, mulling this over for a minute. “Feminine, maybe, and soft. But yeah, definitely colorful,” Deschanel continues.

Zooey stars in the upcoming comedy, Your Highness, with James Franco and describes the film as “a spoof of ’80s adventure fantasy movies. It’s a comedy that has a lot of really dirty jokes.”

Be sure to check out some of Zooey’s favorite things for Spring over at Lucky Mag, and let us know what you think of the cover — does the starlet pull off this fun and flirty look, or would you rather see her a little more buttoned up?

Perez Hilton Celebrates 33rd Birthday With a Blue Ball

Saturday night in Los Angeles had all the stars seeing blue in celebration of venerable blogging celebrity Perez Hilton’s 33rd birthday — and of course, HPNOTIQ was there to keep the blue flowing!

As every Real Housewife and Dancing With The Stars cast member ever and celebs like Aubrey O’Day, Melissa Rivers, Blossom‘s Mayim Bialik, Raven Symone and even Jenna Jameson arrived along Siren Studios’ blue carpet, guests were treated to performances by YouTube sensation Greyson Chance and child rapper MattyB.

But once the kids were put to the bed, things began to really heat up and the real fun began!

With the sexy chefs of The Flying Culinary Circus floating around, two amazing burlesque performances by the incredible Dita Von Teese, a bouncy castle for grownups from our friends over at True Religion and our gorgeous bartenders serving aptly named cocktails like the Coco Perez — it was definitely a night to remember!

Performances by Macy Gray, Debbie Gibson (who totally performed “Electric Youth”), Kat Graham and Christina Perri all rocked the house, as well as a surprise entrance from the skirt of a stilt-walking drag queen by Selena Gomez to sing “Happy Birthday” to the influential birthday boy — a definite highlight of the night.
