What song makes you want to get out on the floor and dance?

My favorite song to dance to is “Hello” by Martin Solveig.

Favorite Quote:

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when their right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust none but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” –Marilyn Monroe

Bartender Ken Hall From Las Vegas’ Sugar Factory

When and why did you get into mixology?

I have been creating cocktails for over 19 years, but didn’t really get into true “mixology” until about six years ago.  Then about five years ago, the company I was working for conceived the idea that became Noir Bar.  Noir had a very speakeasy type feel to it, with the added Vegas pizazz.  In there we did not have a cocktail menu. We kind of just created cocktails for people on the fly. We would do a little interview with the guest and get an idea of what they liked and go from there.  We had a tremendous amount of liquors, liqueurs and fresh ingredients from which to create.  I loved the concept and working there.

Tell me a bit about your bar. What would you tell someone who has never been there before?

Currently I am the corporate mixologist for the Sugar Factory American Brassiere and the Chocolate Lounge.  Both of the menus that I created were built around the theme of the venue. In the Chocolate Lounge I created a menu filled with all different types of chocolate cocktails. As you probably know, the Sugar Factory is a candy store, thus I made a menu filled with cocktails that would take you back to your youth. There is every thing from a Blow Pop and a Hubba Bubba to a Swedish Fish, Grape Crush and a Twinkie. For anyone with any sort of sweet tooth, this could be your beverage paradise. Continue reading

How to Navigate the Online Dating Scene in New York City

Did your summer love end with the chill of a fall breeze? Or did you spend last night whining with your girlfriends because you deleted Mr. Wrong from your phone yesterday…for the second time? Well, you may be in luck, because one of these dating websites could open the door to a new online suitor to date offline in the city!

1. Match is the largest online dating website and has a diverse user base. Members have the ability to perform their own searches, which is of course important for making your initial superficial judgments. There is a monthly fee, but many NYC users have raved that this cost is worth it, as they were sick of meeting people in Lower East Side dive bars who completely lack relationship potential. Arcade Boutique Presents Fashion’s Night Out: LA Edition

Having a left a near circus behind on Rodeo, the tone on Melrose was slightly hipper and quite chic, in a very New York City-type way. Arriving at Arcade Boutique I was greeted by the tune of records being spun and the tempting scents from the city’s popular Grilled Cheese Truck –a welcome treat as I had worked up quite an appetite.

Right away, I spotted women’s shoe designer Jerome C. Rousseau with a glass of Bubbles N’ Berries, mingling with FNO’ers. I perused the fall collection — fun, feminine, eye-catching designs — and couldn’t help wanting to take them all home. What a talent! When I caught up with Jerome a little later I was pleased to find him so sweet and genuinely humble.

We chatted for a while and Jerome shared his thoughts on the importance of Fashion’s Night Out saying, “I’m excited to be here at Arcade tonight. We’re both independent businesses. I get lonely at work so it’s great to be here meeting customers and hearing their thoughts. Tonight is precious to me for that reason.” Continue reading

Kendra Scott Fashion’s Night Out Recap

My second stop for Fashion’s Night Out was at the newly opened Kendra Scott jewelry boutique, a quaint and sophisticated alternative to the madhouse of events on Rodeo Drive, despite being only a few yards away. The friendly, glowing staff greeted me in gorgeous jewel-toned draped dresses, while glittering jewelry sparkled at me from every angle.

Tray-passed flutes of HPNOTIQ Harmonie and champagne — aptly named Bubbles N’ Berries — were offered and as I gladly accepted I had chance to talk about spring trends with Terrell, a Kendra Scott sales associate. I learned that the purple Agate stone is a very popular choice in the store’s Color Bar, where you can create your own custom pieces.

While mingling with some of the other guests, I inquired about everyone’s ideal girl’s night out. The most popular answers were of course shopping, dancing and intimate dinner parties. Well ladies, the next time you host your girls for dinner, I highly suggest serving up Bubbles N’ Berries. Your friends will thank you. Continue reading
