Headed out for the weekend? Tune into some tracks from DJ Kalkutta’s weekend playlist as you get ready to hit the town!
1. “Countdown” Beyoncé
The hardest working woman in showbiz is back with her 4th album much to the delight of her “stans”, and this is song another Beyoncé banger waiting to happen. I love it when she talks about how hard her and Jay-Z ball. If you also get a weird sense of joy from that then you will love this hard hitting song.
If you don’t know about Ninjasonik already, please come to the tardy office and sign for your latepass. They are flying just under the mainstream radar the same way N.E.R.D. did before they blew up atom bomb style 10 years ago when they bodied ‘In Search Of…’.
5. “Wine & Chocolates” Theophilus London
First of all, this man’s real name is Theophilus London. It’s kind of like he was born with swag. ”Wine & Chocolates” is one of my favorite tracks off his debut album ‘Timez Are Weird These Days’. His eclectic, upbeat style is something that’s been missing in the hip hop world for too long now!
6. “The Otherside” Bruno Mars ft. Cee-Lo Green
The talent possessed between these 2 big names is almost unparalleled in the industry right now. This isn’t their first collaboration though, Bruno Mars actually wrote “F**k You” for Cee-Lo months before this song was recorded.
7. “Mamma Knows Best” Jessie J
Jessie J is known as a rookie on the pop scene, but little do people know she’s actually a veteran- penning “Party in the USA” a couple years ago as well as being credited for songwriting for several other huge artists including Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. ”Mamma Knows Best” is an amazing pop/jazz song that could find it’s place anywhere from the radio airwaves to a Broadway musical.
8. “Cry (Just A Little)” Bingo Players
This song sampling Brenda Russell’s “Piano in the Dark” is the official house jam of the summer. If this isn’t made to drunkenly be sung at the top of your lungs at 2:30 a.m. in the middle of a club, then I don’t know what is.
9. “Songs For Women” Frank Ocean
It seems like every time you turn around somebody else has “discovered” Frank Ocean, and he’s singlehandedly taken the R&B world by storm in a matter of months. ”Songs For Women” is one of my favorite songs of his second mixtape, ‘nostalgia, ULTRA’.
10. “Suga Daddy” Wish
Wish is the most adorable thing to hit the Pop scene since Justin Bieber. Her single “Suga Daddy” and the accompanying video landed her a deal with Jive Records this year. Take a listen and you’ll see why!
